The role

What do UAE employers ask a VAT accountant to do?

A general accounting role with VAT and basic corporate tax on top, usually in Tally, with a monthly cash flow statement prepared without help.

Across the VAT accountant roles we fill, employers ask for the same four things: working knowledge of UAE VAT, basic knowledge of UAE corporate tax, Tally, and a monthly cash flow statement prepared without help. It is a general accounting role with VAT on top, which is different from a specialist tax role in a large group. If your requirement is different, tell us on the first call and we screen for it.

Skills checklist

Which skills do UAE employers ask for in a VAT accountant?

Working UAE VAT, basic UAE corporate tax, Tally, and a monthly cash flow statement prepared without help.

What we screen for

  • Working knowledge of UAE VAT
  • Basic knowledge of UAE corporate tax
  • Tally, the accounting software our UAE clients ask for most often
  • A monthly cash flow statement, prepared without help

What to ask in your interview

  • "Take me through a VAT return from invoice to filing."
  • "How has corporate tax changed your records and your year-end?"
  • A short exercise: a small batch of invoices to classify for VAT, without live company data

Salary

What does a VAT accountant earn in the UAE?

Through our own placements, VAT accountants joined at AED 4,000 to 8,000 a month. Published guides list specialist tax accountants at AED 15,000 to 22,000.

SourceMonthly salary
Accounting Baba placements, last year (about 40 to 50 VAT accountants)AED 4,000 to 8,000
Charterhouse 2026, tax accountant sourceAED 15,000 to 18,000
Cooper Fitch 2025, industry tax analyst sourceAED 16,000 to 22,000

Our figure is what we see in our own placements, not a market survey. The roles we fill ask for a general accounting brief with VAT and basic corporate tax on top, which is a different job from the specialist tax roles in the published guides. What moves pay: VAT returns already filed, Federal Tax Authority queries handled, and corporate tax exposure.

Sources, checked 22 October 2026: Charterhouse, UAE Salary Guide 2026 (gross: basic, housing and transport); Cooper Fitch, UAE Salary Guide 2025 (basic plus fixed allowances). Robert Walters quotes basic salary; the other guides quote a fixed or gross package, so read each range as a band, not a price. All roles in one table: UAE accounting and finance salaries 2026.

What it costs

What does it cost to hire a VAT accountant through Accounting Baba?

One month's salary of the person you hire, plus applicable taxes. AED 1,000 per opening is paid upfront and adjusted against that fee.

ItemAmountWhen it is paid
Service charge, per job openingAED 1,000Before we start work
Recruitment feeOne month's salary of the person you hire, plus applicable taxesWhen the candidate joins
BalanceFee less the AED 1,000 already paidWithin 30 days of joining

For example, if you hire a VAT accountant at AED 6,000 a month, the fee is AED 6,000 plus applicable taxes. AED 1,000 is already paid as the service charge, so the balance is AED 5,000 plus applicable taxes, payable within 30 days of joining.

If no candidate we introduced has accepted your offer within 30 days of our receiving the service charge, we return 50% of it, subject to conditions. If the person you hire leaves within 90 days of joining, we recruit one replacement for the same role at no additional fee, subject to conditions. Full rules: UAE fees page and the Terms of Business.

Visa sponsorship, PRO steps, medical tests, Emirates ID, flights and relocation stay with the employer.

Timeline

How long does it take, and where do the candidates come from?

3 to 5 profiles within 7 working days of our receiving the service charge, mostly people already living and working in the UAE and the Gulf.

  1. Day 0: a call about the role. We agree the role, the salary range and the companies to target. You pay the service charge.
  2. Within 7 working days: your shortlist. 3 to 5 profiles, each interviewed by our team and reviewed by CA Ketul Patel, who checks every shortlisted profile himself.
  3. After that: your interviews, the offer and the notice period. We schedule the interviews and support the salary discussion.

Tell us the companies you want people from, including your competitors, and we approach candidates working there. About 80% of our clients hire people already living in the UAE and the Gulf. We recruit from India when you ask for it.

Which role?

VAT accountant, chief accountant or finance manager?

A chief accountant runs the books day to day and supervises the accountants. A finance manager runs the finance function: reporting, cash, tax and the team.

The VAT accountant roles we fill are general accounting roles with VAT and basic corporate tax on top. A chief accountant runs the books day to day: the ledger, reconciliations, VAT returns, payroll and the audit file, and usually supervises the accountants.
