In larger companies the numbers run higher. Michael Page’s India Salary Guide 2026 puts a GM Finance or financial controller with 10 to 15 years’ experience at ₹1,000 to 10,000 crore companies at ₹40 to 80 lakh basic salary, and its salary comparison tool gives an average of ₹40 lakh for a financial controller at AVP level (Michael Page salary guide, salary comparison tool). The guide figures were read from a third-party copy because the official guide needs a sign-up, and they reflect Michael Page’s client base of larger firms.

Financial controller hiring in Mumbai

Mumbai: the largest pool, and the busiest market.

Short answer: Mumbai controllers typically earn ₹25.6 to 28.3 lakh a year on AmbitionBox, so our fee is about ₹2.13 to ₹2.36 lakh. NBFCs also expect RBI and Ind AS knowledge.

On 22 October 2026 Naukri listed 902 financial controller jobs in Mumbai, 246 of them matching an NBFC financial controller search (Naukri, NBFC search). LinkedIn showed 1,000+ and Indeed 261. These are keyword counts, so treat them as a guide to demand, not an exact number.

Many large agencies already work in Mumbai. We do not compete on speed. We compete on a Chartered Accountant reading every profile against your role, and on a published fee of one month’s CTC.

How the fee compares

8.33% of annual CTC, for every role.

VelivoHR puts contingency fees at up to 16.67% of CTC for senior roles and 20% to 25% for retained C-suite search (VelivoHR, 2026). We approach candidates, interview them by video and test the work the role needs. CA Ketul Patel reviews every shortlisted profile himself.

4

Questions

Hiring a financial controller: before you ask.

A financial controller owns the accuracy of the company’s numbers. That covers monthly and annual reporting, consolidation across entities or plants, internal controls, the statutory and tax audits, GST, TDS and income tax compliance, and leading the finance team.
If one company needs its finance function run, hire a finance manager. If the numbers must be right across several entities, plants or lenders, with controls and consolidation, hire a controller. Growing groups often hire a controller before a CFO.
It depends on the city. AmbitionBox’s typical ranges, read on 22 October 2026, run from ₹17.6 to 21.9 lakh a year in Noida to ₹30.5 to 33.7 lakh in Gurugram; Ahmedabad is ₹27.7 to 32.2 lakh and Mumbai ₹25.6 to 28.3 lakh. The full table is above.
Our fee is one month’s CTC of the person you hire, plus applicable taxes. ₹5,000 per job opening is paid upfront as a service charge and is adjusted against that fee. If we do not close the opening within 30 days of receiving the service charge, half of it is returned. The balance is payable within 10 days of the candidate joining. There is no annual fee, retainer or monthly charge.
One month’s CTC: ₹2,25,000 plus applicable taxes. The ₹5,000 service charge is adjusted against it, so ₹2,20,000 plus taxes is due within 10 days of joining. At 12% to 16.67% of CTC the same hire would cost about ₹3.24 to ₹4.50 lakh.
You get 3 to 5 profiles within 7 working days of the day we receive the service charge. Each profile is screened, interviewed and reviewed by CA Ketul Patel before it reaches you. How long the hire takes after that depends on your interview rounds and the candidate’s notice period.
Our founder, CA Ketul Patel, a Chartered Accountant, reviews every shortlisted profile himself before you see it. For senior finance roles he checks the candidate’s experience against the work the role needs, such as closing books, GST and tax compliance, audits, MIS, budgeting and bank or lender work.
Yes. We run the search by phone and video, and we look for the RBI and Ind AS knowledge NBFC employers expect from a controller. You interview the shortlist in person or on video.
We find one replacement for the same role at no additional fee if the candidate resigns or is let go within 90 days of joining. It applies when the fee has been paid on time and you tell us within 7 days of the exit, and not when the exit is due to redundancy, restructuring or a change in the role, location or salary. Full details are in our Terms of Business.
