What notice period applies when you hire an accountant already working in the UAE?

Under UAE rules the notice period in an employment contract must be at least 30 days and no more than 90 days, and both sides can agree to reduce or waive it. If the accountant is still on probation, they must give their current employer at least one month's written notice before moving to a new one.

Paid service for employers. The employer pays; the candidate pays nothing.

What the rules say about notice

The UAE government portal states that the notice period must not be less than 30 days and must not exceed 90 days, and that it may be reduced or exempted by mutual agreement (u.ae). The exact period is whatever the candidate's current contract says, within that range.

So ask every shortlisted candidate for their notice period early, and read the offer start date against it.

What changes if the candidate is on probation

Probation must not exceed six months. An employee who wants to change jobs during probation must give the current employer at least one month's written notice, and the new employer has to compensate the current employer for the employee's recruitment cost, unless the current employer and the employee agree otherwise (u.ae).

The same portal notes that ending employment during probation can affect the worker's eligibility for a new work permit (u.ae). Check the candidate's status before you make an offer.

Why this matters for local hires

About 80% of our UAE clients want candidates who already live and work locally. We recruit from the companies you name, including your competitors, so the people you interview are usually employed and will serve a notice period before they join.

If the role is urgent, tell us on the first call. We screen for notice period alongside skills, and you decide whether a shorter notice is worth more than a stronger profile.
